Breast development in teens

The teen years are also called adolescence. This is a time for growth spurts and puberty changes sexual maturation. A teen may grow several inches in several months, followed by a time of very slow growth. Then they may have another growth spurt. Puberty changes may happen slowly. Or several changes may occur at the same time.

Jump to navigation. Breast development is caused by hormones released by the ovaries at puberty. These hormones cause fat to accumulate, causing your breasts to enlarge. The first sign of breast development is slight swelling under the nipple, a stage of development called breast buds. As your breasts first start to grow, they can be very tender and sore.

While the process of reaching full womanhood will take longer than puberty, much of your womanhood is emerging during this process. It can be confusing, nerve-racking, and sometimes embarrassing. No question that this is when the most dramatic physiological changes take place and breast development is one of the most noticeable ones. Managing these challenges can be hard but it can be done effectively when the family is informed.

Puberty is the stage of adolescence when your child starts to develop physically into an adult. As the breasts develop, problems like lumps or infections sometimes occur. These problems can be alarming. But they are common and rarely serious.
